The Ruskin Bond of Bengali literature, Shirshendu Mukhopadhyay has written more than 100 stories and books for children, most of them on ghosts. As the acclaimed writer Shirshendu Mukhopadhyay believes in ghost, he himself expresses that, in real life, ghosts are not as fun loving as he has illustrated in his books!
Mukhopadhyay's signature book The Ghost of Gosain Bagan, translated into Hindi, is a satire on ghosts narrated with humour in his trademark style.
He has written about magic realism much before Gabriel Garcia Marquez and Salman Rushdie.
The early novel “Ghunpoka”, of the author failed to attract readers. Even the critics were not interested to comment on it. After 40-50 years of its first publication, new editions of this novel are being published every year. He thinks he could not communicate with the readers at that time but nowadays readers can understand its theme and so the novel has gained popularity after 40 years.
The opposite happened with the novel “Durbin”.He thought the novel would not be able to attract readers because of its unconventional form, but it gained popularity.
He has proved the truth that he always writes from his heart and never writes for popularity or money.
